The fish factory processed Menhaden or Moss Bunker from the 1930's until 1973.

The Fish Factory, located on Crab Island, was also known as the "Stink House."  It made a lot of products from bunker.  The fish oil was used to make cosmetics, paint,  and high protein brown flour that was shipped to Europe.  Fertilizer and animal food was also made using the bunker.
