Jay C. Parker Decoy Shop

By: Samantha W.

Jay C. Parker lived nearby in Pakertown, New Jersey. He was a legendary bayman. A bayman is a person who lives and works on the water (Tuckerton is located on the Barnegat Bay and the Atlantic Ocean is a few miles to the east). Baymen’s occupations and hobbies are fishing, clamming, gathering oysters, building boats and carving duck decoys. Jay Parker was a well-known decoy carver. He hand-carved and hand-painted big decoys, small decoys, and even miniature sneak boxes.

To carve a regular size decoy takes 10-12 hours. To carve a smaller decoy takes 8-9 hours. How many hours would it take to build both?
